Last year, I was tinkering with the idea of coming up with a Highlander slash version of James Cameron's blockbuster film, Titanic. Although I wasn't a fan of the movie, I was challenged to come up with my own version -- with Methos and Duncan in the Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose De Witt Bukater (Kate Winslet) roles, respectively. I even ended up doing in-depth research on the Titanic sinking, wanting to put in scenes that are not in the movie.

However, my editor at "Glitter Magazine" found out that I was writing fanfic, and he challenged me to do a sequel to the film for publication in the magazine. He even had two suggestions: 1) Write a slash story wherein Cal Hockley (Billy Zane) was not really in love with Rose, but with Jack; or 2) Write a story wherein Jack survived the sinking. I junked the first idea in a flash. The problem with the second idea is how to explain Jack's surviving that tragic night. The answer was simple: Make him Immortal! Hence, "Titanic: Changing Tides" was born.

Since I didn't want to lose any ideas from the first story I was writing, I designed "Tides" as a sequel to BOTH the spoof and the film. When it was published in "Glitter" last Nov. 16, it was surprisingly well-received by Filipino readers, despite the implied slash in the story.
