| Episode Three,
er, Eight...well,, we start in an eerie graveyard, skulls and dead trees,
and Montoya's lackeys, pillaging a Mayan burial thingee. It's all here.
Montoya will be so pleased. Within the leather shroud of the latest burial,
lies an elegant golden mask, covering the face of the first lost father. |

| The avenging son leaps onto
the thief, but the others overpower the boy... |
and beat him senseless.
But he is soon on their trail, |
and manages to retrieve
the locked chest with the mask, only to be backed off when one of the soldiers
scrambles for a gun. He seems to vanish into thin air. |

| Tessa meets with a deserter
who has knowledge of her father's murderer. She gives him pencil and paper
to document his tale, so |
she can present the case to
the Spanish court. She offers him ten gold royals, but suddenly... |
out stalwart son dashes into
the barn where Tessa is meeting with the deserter, Raoul. Raoul snatches
the pouch with the royals and |

| ducks for cover. The boy is
transfixed momentarily as he stares at Tessa's face, then he also scrambles
for the straw |
as Grisham's voice is heard
in the doorway. Tessa, fearing Raoul will be discovered, betrays the boy's
hiding place and he is hauled away. |
Grisham warns her this is
no place for a lady. She says her father used to keep horses here. He says
she should forget the past and think about their future.
