| Dr. Helm decides
to investigate the assassin. They've sealed off the room Latham stayed
in at the hotel, and where he killed one of the guard when they came to
question him about the Don's shooting, as they did all the guests. |
 |
 |
 |
| In the course of tossing the
room, he finds another bolt, left under the bed. |
In a valise, he finds various
papers and probably Latham's name. |
Meanwhile, outside the room,
Latham is hot on the trail again. |
 |
 |
 |
| Helm hears a sound, and... |
Montoya walks in.
"And perhaps you will tell
me why you are here, Roberto?" |
"And perhaps not, Luis. I,
uh, well, I'm a doctor, Jim--no that's not it. I thought I'd look around.
You know powers of observation and such." Those same powers that walked
him by the suspicious gentleman sitting on the ground by the front door
that turned out to be Latham. |
 |
 |
 |
"You're so conscientious it's
unbelievable, Roberto." Translate: You lying son of a Horseman.
"And, no, we haven't found
anything out about the assassin yet. Don't worry, nothing gets past me
forever." |
They do another turn at "dueling
eyeballs." You just know Montoya knows and Helm knows he knows that he
knows...etc. And you just know sooner or later, Montoya is going to try
to pull the leash in on Helm.
Helm claims he's found nothing
and Montoya knows better. |
At the Fuentes hacienda, Ramone
unsuccessfully attempts a murder of the rival Don. When Fuentes swears
to the young man that he did not kill his father, Ramone spits in his face.
"I have a family," Fuentes intones woefully, "take him far away from here
and kill him." |
 |
 |
 |
| Ramone is taken to the edge
of a deep canyon and they prepare to push him to his death. |
The Queen arrives in the nick
of time, whip cracking. She kills one of Fuentes' henchmen and saves Ramone. |
He is lovestruck to the max.
"You saved my life. She can hardly get him focused enough to mount up behind
her so they can get away.
She leaves him in the middle
of nowhere and rides alone into town. |
 |
 |
 |
| She visits the doctor with
an array of symptoms, so she can speak with him.
Helm is having a hard time
concentrating. |
He's conflicted between relating
to her as doctor/patient, man/woman, spy/Queen. While his dialogue stays
with the first, his actions tend to linger at the second, and it takes
a bit before the spy kicks in... |
All the while, Tessa is trying
to convey the very real danger Ramone is in because his vengeance won't
let him stop going after Fuentes. She has to deliver all of this via a
simpering gossip mode. |
 |
 |
 |
| She finally gets through to
Dr. Helm.
Stethoscope number three is
a fetoscope...oh, well. |
He finally connects with what
she is trying to convey and bustles her out of his office, giving her a
beautiful little bottle of sugar water. |
Helm arranges for Ramone and
Fuentes to meet at the chapel where Aguilera died. |
 |
 |
 |
Helm explains that the assassin
is after him for many reasons that he will "take to my grave."
When Ramone asks why he should
believe him, Helm howls,
"Look at me! Look in my eyes!" |
That's not life you see.
That's death! |
And death leaves a trail. |
