Montoya
is up to biz as usual, realizing his plan to rule California, or something
like that, through the dastardly deeds of his second in command, Grisham,
and the quisling, Hidalgo. This week, he is carting off the poor peasants
to work in old, abandoned gold mines, where they are contracting some sort
of fever.
The episode
opens with one of the peasants' trying to flee and falling to his death
from a cliff. |

|
| The
supply ship is late in arriving, as Tessa and Marta wander a nearly empty
market and Tessa complains about their lack of spices, fruits, etc. She
spies a single apple and reaches...but... |
A filthy
stranger beats her at the game of grab apple. That's my apple, she complains. |
Ever
the gentleman, Robert offers her half after wiping it on his dusty duster
coat. She declines. |
|
|
|
| Robert
shrugs and goes back to enjoying the apple. "I'm very hungry." |
Tell
me this isn't the niftiest hat you've seen since Indiana Whats-his-name. |
"I'll
just bet you don't even know what hungry is." He makes mention of her nobility,
but that's not where he's looking. |
|
|
|
| Is it
my imagination, or do you feel a buzz in the air? |
Doctor
Helm, we've been expecting you. |
You're
a doctor?
Yes,
and I rode all the way from Texas to steal your apple. |
|
|
|
| Didn't
you used to have a scar? |
Didn't
you used to be shorter? |
Who
is he?
He says
he's a doctor. |
|
|
|
Like the coat, Roberto. I'm
thinking of getting one of those.
Like the pony tail, Luis.
Reminds me of somebody... |
Been a long time, Luis. What's
new with you?
Same old, same old.
What's the story on Senorita
Alvarado? |
She's no Cassandra, Roberto.
Thank God for that, Luis.
But say, can you tell me what happened to the rest of her nose? |
The Alvarado hacienda
|
The wife of the peasant
who died in the first scene comes to report him missing.
Tessa does a quick turn at
squirreling info out of the Colonel and then dashes off, by way of the
beach (everything seems to be by way of the beach) to swash a few buckles...
|
|
Tessa: He's a tarantula.
Marta: A tarantula with teeth
like pearls, broad shoulders, and blue eyes.
Tessa: His eyes are green. |
Life is a beach.

Next, Robert Helm cleans
up real good.
